Employment Service Specialist (Youth Program)

 

Job Description


The Youth Employment Service Specialist (ESS) will work with youths 16-21 years of age as a role model; provide support with employment services, guidance in their academic and personal lives. This position is designed to provide leadership to our youth programs. The Youth ESS will also provide links to community resources and serve as an advocate for youth.


Duties


· Working with the Program Director and youth staffs to conduct outreach and solicit community youth and adults to participate in program activities


· Participate in program planning, coordination, implementation, and reporting for assigned components.


· Recruit, enroll, train, and orient new and 

returning mentors and mentees on program policies and practices.


· Assess youth clients for supportive services; Provide referrals and resources when necessary


· Screen youth clients for eligibility and job skills; Provide job readiness sessions to prepare clients for interviews


· Provide case management functions; file and data maintenance


· Work with existing employers for youth placements and develop new employer network


· Responsible for the logistics and scheduling of various youth activities and events.


· Assist in the development of employment goals and work with instructors to develop employability plans for youth clients


· Working closely with various youth components and attend meetings to represent the agency and its services.


· Work closely with existing partners and develop new project partners in developing new collaborative partnerships


· Serve as a role model/mentor to students


· Assist with ongoing data collection/evaluation services as needed by the program evaluators


· Assist with progress reports to various funders and partners


· Monitor assigned component budgets and attendance tracking


· Working flexible hours that will include occasional weekends and evenings


· Other duties as assigned by Program Director or the Executive Director

Desired Qualifications


· At least one (1) year experience with employment and vocational training programs


· At least one (1) year experience with assessment and case management


· Team-oriented, flexible, enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated to the formation and philosophy of the development of youth


· Experience working with youth and previous experience in mentoring and teaching desired


· Experience working with employers and developing new collaborations; Knowledge of the Sacramento labor market as well as community resources preferred


· Experience with case management


· Ability to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services


· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value systems and behavior norms


· Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and families, with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate


· Demonstrate good writing and organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills


· Must be at least 18 years of age and be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident


· Proficient in Microsoft suites and other computer software desirable


· Must obtain clearance of fingerprint background check through DOJ, Valid California Drivers License, own transportation, automobile insurance and good driving record required


· Bilingual/Multilingual skills preferred including Hmong, Lao, Chinese, Thai, Tagalog, Mien, Farsi, Spanish, Russian, Bosnian, or Ukrainian


Compensation:


This is a full-time hourly position.


Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.


Occasional weekends and after hour schedules


Salary commensurate on experience


Desired start date is ASAP

Executive Assistant

 

JOB DESCRIPTION


Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director (ED), this position provides administrative and secretarial support for the ED. In addition to typing, filing and scheduling, performs duties such as coordination of meetings and conferences, obtaining supplies, coordinating direct mailings, and working on special projects. Also, answers non-routine correspondence and assembles highly confidential and sensitive information. Deals with a diverse group of important external callers and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload, recommends changes in office practices or procedures.


Duties:


· Perform a variety of clerical duties; Schedules and organizes complex activities such as meetings, travel, conferences and department activities for ED and other staff as necessary.


· Represents ED at meetings and community events as necessary


· Establishes, develops, maintains and updates filing system for the ED. Retrieves information from files when needed.


· Organizes and prioritizes large volumes of information and calls.


· Provide relieve to receptionist as needed. Sort, open or distributes mail for ED.


· Drafts written responses or replies by phone or e-mail when necessary. Responds to regularly occurring requests for information


· Answers phones for ED. Takes messages or fields/answers all routine and non-routine questions. Works in cooperation with other system development assistants to cover phones.


· Acts as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies, including high-level staff such as ARI Board, Directors, and Coordinators. Handles confidential and non-routine information and explains policies when necessary.


· Works independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects.


· Acts as project manager for special projects, at the request of the ED, which may include: planning and coordinating multiple presentations, disseminating information, coordinating direct mailings, creating brochures.


· Types and designs general correspondences, memos, charts, tables, graphs, business plans, etc. Proofreads copy for spelling, grammar and layout, making appropriate changes. Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final copy.


· Supports ED with department finances. Activities include: copying check requests and sending to accounts payable travel reimbursement, documenting corporate credit card expenses to corporate finance.


· Regular and timely attendance


· Work safely and report safety issues


· Other duties as assigned; Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice


Desired Qualifications:


· A college graduate preferred


· At least 2 years of previous administrative experience supporting high level executives; knowledge of general office procedures, equipments and computer applications such Microsoft Word, Excel


· Excellent phone etiquettes, customer services skills, ability to multi-task, good problem solving skills, punctual and professional appearance


· Ability to handle adversity and crisis in 

an efficient manner and attention to details under stressful situations while maintaining a professional and confidential work environment


· Experience in working with culturally diverse work environment with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate


· Ability to work independently with little supervision;


· Working flexible hours as necessary to attend events


· Must demonstrate good writing, organizational skills with attention to accuracy and details.


· Strong verbal and written communication skills
